What Are Strutted Headboards?
Strutted headboards have two reinforced struts that attach the headboard securely to a divan base. This attachment is invisible when the bed is pushed against a wall.
Why Would I Want One?
The real advantage of strutted headboards is they can be easily adjusted to the height you want. This means if you decide to change your mattress, you can simply nudge your headboard up or down to fit. Being lightweight, strutted headboards are easy to move and easy to store if you want to flat pack your bed for safe keeping.
What Are Floor Standing Headboards?
A standing headboard is a separate headboard unit that stands directly on the floor. They are independent of the bed but this doesn’t mean they wobble. They attach to a divan base using the same fixtures that strutted headboards use.
Why Would I Want One?
The main reason is stability. By fixing directly to the divan base, standing headboards increase the structural integrity of the bed. This means that a new floor standing headboard is sturdier than a strutted headboard and can give new life to an older divan bed.
Floor standing headboards are also an excellent way of achieving the bedstead look. If you order a bed and headboard together, you can specify the same material, effect, or finish, creating a unified look. However, due to the advantages that they offer over strutted headboards, standing headboards tend to be the costlier option. With their extra features, standing headboards are the most popular choice but if price is a big concern, a strutted headboard usually comes at a lower cost.
Which Is Better?
Both standing and strutted headboards offer great value for money. The choice is very much one of personal preference – unless the headboard in question needs to be navigated up or down a narrow staircase, possibly with a low ceiling.
